Last December 7, 2024, the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris reopened its doors after five years of reconstruction due to the 2019 fire. During the reopening ceremony, the Archbishop of Paris, Laurent Ulrich, consecrated the new altar with Antara extra virgin olive oil, produced by the Coselva de la Selva del Camp cooperative, with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Siurana.
The relationship between Coselva and Notre-Dame dates back to 1998, when Antara oil received the award for the best Spanish extra virgin olive oil. That same year, a Parisian devotee who was spending her summer in Tarragona discovered the excellence of Antara oil and established a commercial relationship with the cooperative. In 2008, when the usual supplier was unable to supply oil to the Cathedral, this link enabled Antara oil to be consecrated for use in the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick and the Extreme Unction at Notre-Dame.
Antara oil is an extra virgin olive oil made from Arbequina olives, recognized for its exceptional quality and taste. Its presence in such a significant event as the reopening of Notre-Dame highlights the importance and prestige of Siurana PDO products in the international arena.
For those interested in tasting this exceptional quality extra virgin olive oil, Antara oil is available for purchase through our online store and at our agrobotigues in La Selva del Camp and Castellvell del Camp.
